Bring your collections to life when the internet cannot
Curio Local is an offline visitor engagement app designed specifically for museums, galleries and heritage sites.
Visitors download your venue’s content to their device before their visit, making the experience available throughout the site without relying on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
From detailed object information and image galleries to educational games and iBeacon-powered trails, Curio Local gives visitors an engaging digital experience wherever your collections take them.
It is ideal for historic buildings, rural attractions, underground spaces and other locations where internet coverage may be unreliable or unavailable.
Reliable visitor engagement — completely offline
Once your museum’s content has been downloaded, Curio Local stores it directly on the visitor’s device.
Pages, images, trails and interactive content can therefore be accessed quickly throughout the visit without waiting for a web page to load or searching for a usable mobile signal.
Visitors can find objects using the app’s QR Scanner, making Curio Local equally suitable for individual exhibits, galleries, display cases and complete museum collections.
Rich information for every object
Give visitors more than can comfortably fit on a museum label.
Curio Local can provide additional interpretation, stories and supporting information for individual objects while allowing the physical displays themselves to remain uncluttered.
Visitors can discover the story behind an object at their own pace and choose how much additional information they want to explore.
Images that reveal more
Add high-quality images to exhibit information and allow visitors to explore details that may be difficult to see in the gallery.
Images can be enlarged, and multiple images can be presented as an interactive gallery.
This is particularly useful for revealing hidden details, showing alternative views, providing historic photographs or displaying objects that cannot normally be viewed from every angle.

Display Case View
Large display cases can contain dozens of objects, and identifying the object described by a traditional label is not always straightforward.
Curio Local’s Display Case View provides visitors with a visual guide to the contents of a case by scanning just a single QR code.
Images and simple labels allow visitors to recognise an object quickly and select it to discover more.
It creates a much more intuitive way to explore collections where several objects are displayed together.
Be an Explorer
Turn a museum visit into an adventure.
Be an Explorer is Curio Local’s interactive discovery game, encouraging visitors to move around the museum, examine objects carefully and solve clues.
Players are given clues that lead them to objects hidden throughout the collection. Finding the correct exhibit rewards their progress before revealing the next challenge.
The experience encourages observation and exploration rather than simply moving from one screen to another, making it particularly effective for families and younger visitors.
Museums can use the objects in their own collections to create games and challenges tailored to their venue.

Curio Trails – let the museum come to the visitor
Curio Trails use discreet Bluetooth Beacons positioned around your venue to highlight objects and displays as visitors explore.
Watch our demonstration video HERE to find out how it works.
When a visitor approaches a relevant area, Curio can use the beacon to identify nearby content and draw attention to an object they might otherwise have missed.
Trails can be used to create themed journeys through a collection, highlight important exhibits or encourage visitors to explore less frequently visited areas of a site.
Because the museum content has already been downloaded to the device, the associated information remains available even where there is no internet connection.
Curio Trails create opportunities for discovery without requiring visitors to constantly search, scan codes or follow a rigid route.
Accessibility built into the experience
Visitors have different requirements, so Curio Local gives them control over the way information is presented.
Text can be made larger or smaller, written information can be spoken aloud, and display controls such as increased contrast help make content easier to read.
These tools remain readily available throughout the app rather than being hidden away in a settings screen.
The result is a visitor experience that can adapt to the individual instead of expecting every visitor to interact with museum interpretation in the same way.
History – easily return to discovered objects
During a visit it is easy to find something interesting and then forget exactly where it was.
Curio Local’s History feature keeps a record of recently viewed content, allowing visitors to return quickly to objects they have already explored, even if away from your venue.
It is especially useful during larger visits where visitors may encounter many different exhibits over several galleries.
Designed for museums. Designed for visitors.
Curio Local combines the convenience of a digital guide with the reliability of an experience stored directly on the visitor’s device.
Museums can provide richer interpretation without filling galleries with additional signage, while visitors remain free to explore independently and discover the stories that interest them.
No unreliable museum Wi-Fi. No dependence on mobile reception. Just your collections, your stories and a richer visitor experience.
