Some of the responses we have had from Museums and Visitors who use Curio

From Lyndsay Armstrong, manager of Ilfracombe Museum – Devon

The Curio App has provided us with a different way to reach a wider audience, it’s very easy to use and gives visitors the facility to look into objects more deeply.

It affords our visitors the ability to experience static display items in many ways, musical instruments can be heard, taxidermy animals can be seen in motion, unfamiliar tools can be observed in use.

The app enables our visitors to access information in other languages allowing more people to engage with the collection.

The option to have information read out can be of great support to visually impaired visitors and this has really changed the visitor experience of those unable to read our labels and interpretation boards.

The Children’s trail facility has allowed us to upgrade our trail and make it more fun and interactive for families.

The hub is easy to access and navigate and we can clearly see our Information and multimedia elements at a glance, it’s also quick and easy to update as required, there’s no laborious maintenance required. It also provides us with valuable information about how visitors are engaging with our collection and what items seems to trigger the most interest.

I would highly recommend the app to other museums and heritage sites; it has given us several ways to make access to our collection easier and more engaging and we would have struggled to achieve this without it.

A letter from a visitor to The Royal Signals Museum – Dorset (ROSM have kindly given permission to publish)

Dear Director,

Earlier today my wife and I visited the museum. It was our first time at the museum.

I’m getting in touch to say how much we enjoyed our time there.  The museum is clearly managed and curated with care and attention. In particular, we received a warm welcome at the entry reception area.

I don’t see too well these days, due to macular degeneration, and use a short white cane to indicate my visual impairment.  Your colleague on the desk mentioned a couple of phone apps that I might find of interest.  I opted to try “Curio” and as I went around, I scanned the various QR codes. This resulted in the app speaking lots of exhibit-specific information into my earbuds. Absolutely fantastic! This transformed my experience. Many thanks to you and your colleagues for enabling this, it really did make a difference.

Finally, just to mention we also had an excellent meal and tea in the café, run by  friendly staff.

Many thanks again,

Pete
